Stitched Backgrounds
A 1950s scarf used as the source for the stitched background
Colours selected- watercolour pencils. Some of the colours were achieved by mixing.
Design in pencils
The stitched sample on satin. The colours were chosen for their similarity to the pencils but of course ironed out to a much brighter, different colour. Oops!!! I didn't use any yellow!!
Another idea on silk Dupion backed with Pelmet Vilene, based on the drawing (top centre) on page 9. Double rows of stitch pattern 132 in a variagated cotton thread alternated with tubular cotton kniting tape. The tape was then stitched at right angles across the piece
Automatic Patterns
on silk Dupion on medium Calico backing.
Fabric Backgrounds.
I used some of the trimmings left over from Chapter two 3D sample on Calico. I think I overdid the heat gun!!
Sheer snippets betwen polyseter chiffon, top layer blue, under layer jade green.
Black snippets on felt
and gold snippets on apricot felt.

Painted fusible webbing on quilting fabric. The paper backing was interesting too and could be uesed in Chapter 2
Printed and stitched.
The design for the block was taken from the tree on page 4 and printed onto a quilting fabric.
A design of circles made on the computer and printed onto transfer paper. The paper was cut into strips, rearranged and ironed onto Calico. The piece was covered with a jade green sheer and stitched in rows.
Rarranged fabrics from a previous experiment. patchwork pieces joined togethe then cut up, rearranged and re assembled. This was done several times.
Sheer fabrics bonded to blue felt and stitched with automatic patterns. the piece was cut up and rearrranged, then the pieces joined together.
Silk and wool fibres needle felted onto cream wool and machine patterns added.
