Chapter 5

These are based on an angular bird from a sheet of sketches in my research.

Cluster of birds eggs which gave quite a flowery effect which I did not expect.

Border
I used shapes from bird bones and like the curved shapes.I tried a linear arrangement at first but it just looked like a face so a vertical pattern was chosen.  I tried to invert the design in the bottom row but didn't get it quite in line.

Isolated shapes

This might work well on the bird house resist fabric

I'm pleased with the way this turned out.  It has a variety of shapes for Applique.

I like these shapes but I think they would be difficult to stitch, - could be an idea for soft Applique

Extra experiments

I like the piece above so did an allover pattern with fabric crayons and ironed it onto cottton to make a fabric.  It might be useful to make Applique shapes.
The colours on the fabric below are rather pale in comparison to the paper rubbing.

I tried more rubbbing of the simple designs using complimentary and contracting colours

Aother border, based on the images on a plate in my research.  It gave a more geometric pattern that the previou sborder of bird bones.

I like the piece above as it really shows the shapes, and the one below where four colours were used .
